the largest japanese community outside of japan ; and - of course - significant numbers of portuguese and spanish . many of these newcomers were skilled factory workers whose knowledge helped são paulo emerge as a manufacturing capital during the industrial revolution and wwii . over a period of less than 30 years, the city’s population exploded from 250,000 to 1 million. steady growth continued through the century, passing rio in 1960, and hitting 8.5 million in 1980 . today, the population of the megalopolis known as “ sampa ” is over 20 million. in many ways it is a thriving global city with the largest stock exchange in latin america ; a vibrant culture with over 100 museums and dynamic performing arts spaces and beautiful parks. as part of futbol-crazed brazil, it proudly hosted matches during the 2014 world cup ; and is making significant investments in the next generation, with 850,000 students enrolled in higher education courses. unfortunately though, são paulo’s rapid development has also taken a heavy toll, with four core problems rising above the rest. the city ’s only major bodies of water are the tiete and pinheiros rivers. as the population grew, the government - plagued by inefficiency and corruption - struggled to meet demand for basic infrastructure. without enough wastewater treatment plants, sewage from millions of people flowed directly into the rivers. toxic waste from industrial facilities was dumped without limit. when new highways were built, the city laid them on the only continuous stretches of land left, the riverbanks, and then hid stretches of them behind walls. but even if you can’t always see the rivers, their stench doesn’t go away. when the tiete is at it most-choked, it is a biologically deadzone as far as barra bonita , 260 km downstream. it wasn’t always this way. the rivers used to be gathering points for recreation--distant memories that are motivating current rehabilitation efforts, which include projects to treat 100% of all wastewater before it enters the tiete, putting an end to all illegal dumping, and teaching people how to care for their rivers and streams. facebook : http://www.facebook.com/thedailyconversation http://www.twitter.com/thedailyconvo peru obama noticias trump news al jazeera published: 13 sep 2018 views: 200170 these destinations will have you feeling buena onda . join http ://www.watchmojo.com as we count down our picks for the top 10 latin american countries to visit . suggestion tool ►►http://www.watchmojo.com/suggest subscribe►►http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=watchmojo facebook ►►http://www.facebook.com/watchmojo twitter►►http://www.twitter.com/watchmojo instagram►►http://instagram.com/watchmojo channel page ►►http://www.youtube.com/watchmojo for this list, we're focusing on countries only – not specific cities – that are culturally considered part oflatin america . special thanks to our user amilcar napoleon quintanilla for submitting the idea using interactive suggestion tool at http://www.watchmojo.com/suggest check out the voting page here, http://www.watchmojo.com/suggest/top+10+paises+latinoamericanos+para+visitar want a watchmojo cup, mug, t-shirts, pen, sticker and even a water bottle? get them all when you order your mojobox gift set here: http://watchmojo.com/store/ watchmojo is a leading producer of reference online video content, covering the people, places and trends you care about. we update daily with 4-5 top 10 lists, origins , biographies, versus clips on movies, video games, music, pop culture and more! published: 12 may 2016 views: 212144 after my failed attempt to time-lapse colombia on my previous visit, i try again. this time i visit the crown jewell of colombia's landscapes, caño cristales . this river is famous for it's special colors caused by the macarenia clavigera plant, and has often been called the world's most beautiful of its kind. i'll now show you why. music from musicbed.com sign up here to get unlimited access to the best music for films (affiliate link): http ://share.mscbd.fm/mortenrustad see the camera gear i use here: https://youtu.be/vg6h0u3s8_o follow my journey on instagram: morten.rustad http://www.mortenrustad.com published: 16 nov 2018 views: 1767 tara goes to south america for the first time and experiences some strange things on the equator! she also visits her cousin living in a tiny village. tara learns how to milk a cow, feed animals on a farm, pick plants and fruit, and visits the village school to give the kids some gifts. four days without a phone, internet, car, tv and hot water! it was an amazing experience! music : calypso beach walk by doug maxwell published: 15 nov 2016 views: 238560 arepa is a type of food made of ground maize dough or cooked flour prominent in the cuisine of venezuela and colombia . it is eaten daily in those countries and can be served with accompaniments such as cheese (cuajada), avocado, or split to make sandwiches. sizes, maize types, and added ingredients vary its preparation. arepas can also be found in panama , puerto rico , the dominican republic , trinidad and tobago and the canary islands . it is similar in sha
